The project
McKenzie Apartments is a residential high-rise in the heart of downtown Seattle, with 450 homes above ground-floor retail and seven levels of underground parking. Residents share rooftop, fitness, wellness and meeting spaces, all of which need reliable coverage.
The building was delivered as an integrated design-build project. The wireless and low-voltage scope sat alongside mechanical, electrical and fire protection, so connectivity was coordinated with every other trade from the outset in a tight, congested city site.
What we delivered
- Public safety DAS as part of the building's life safety and security package, alongside the telephone entry, CCTV, access control and garage emergency stations.
- Cellular DAS assurance. Although a cellular DAS was outside the original contract, the team reviewed the system design, laid out equipment, ran benchmark testing and completed final testing and documentation.
- Wi-Fi and amenity connectivity including access point locations, Cat6 and coax cabling, voice and data outlets, equipment and ladder racks, and elevator phones.
- In-unit connectivity with multimedia smart boxes pre-loaded with phone, data and TV modules, Cat5e cabling, pathways, termination and testing in every apartment.
- Carrier coordination of the service entrance and riser backbone cabling with the service providers.
The outcome
Residents and first responders get dependable coverage from the garage levels to the rooftop, and the owner has a documented, tested system ready for ongoing compliance and future carrier upgrades.
